information for teachers about how to enroll in JASON Academy
courses and receive three semester hours of graduate-level
credit in science or math from the University of West Florida.
Since 1989, JASON Academy has been a leading provider of experience-based curriculum and professional learning for educators. Using multi-media tools and access to the nations leading researchers, JASON combines genuine expeditions around the world, standards-based curriculum and accredited professional learning to help teachers bring the thrill of discovery to the classroom.
The Academy offers simple and affordable Online Courses in Math and Science to meet the rigorous requirements of NCLB, develop content knowledge and improve teaching strategies. Teachers successfully completing the JASON Academy math and science courses can earn graduate credit through a special arrangement with the University of West Florida’s College of Professional Studies.
Courses approved as SCE 6xxx and MAE 6xxx are approved and acknowledged by the faculty of the College of Professional Studies Teacher Education Division. These graduate courses are offered through the UWF Online Campus and are designed to meet the needs of educators at a time and place convenient to them.
JASON Academy courses in which students receive graduate credit may be applied in many ways. First, the JASON Academy courses taken for credit can be applied to one of The College of Professional Studies online graduate programs such as the Comprehensive Program in Elementary Education, the Comprehensive Program in Middle Level Education, and the Comprehensive Program in Secondary Education. Secondly, the graduate credit may also be applied toward Teacher Certification in mathematics or science in the state of Florida. Finally, teachers seeking inservice points can take JASON Academy courses for recertification.
Step 1: Register for a JASON Academy Course with The JASON Academy online Store at http://www.tangibledata.com/jason/html/index.html.
Step 2: Complete a Non Degree Seeking Student Status form at UWF through the https://secure.uwf.edu/registrar/secure/xap/xappage1.cfm web form.
Step 3: Contact Dave Stout (dstout@uwf.edu or 850-474-2284) or Margaret Penton (mpenton@uwf.edu or 850-474-2056) to officially register for the course.
Step 4: Begin taking the JASON Academy Course as stated in the JASON Academy materials.
Step 5: Receive final grades from UWF at the end of the semester. Although you may complete your course prior to the end of the semester, grades will only be posted at the end of each academic semester at UWF.
COST: $781.41 per course (3 graduate hours)
