The University of West Florida Online Campus has a dedicated Military Coordinator to assist service members and their families with any issues associated with online courses and programs.
As your dedicated coordinator, I would like to introduce myself. My name is John Carey and I am a retired Navy Commander (Submarines). I enlisted in the U.S. Navy before my 17th birthday. As an enlisted member, Seaman Recruit, to commissioned officer status, Commander (Submarines), I have had the privilege to serve in destroyers, submarines, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., as well as a number of major staffs in Hawaii, the Philippines, the United Kingdom and Northern Europe. As I progressed “up the ladder” and through my thirty-years of service, I have had the honor to serve as Commanding Officer of five commands throughout the world. Education-wise, I earned a BS in Management and Psychology with Honors (Summa Cum Laude), University of Maryland, and an MA in ESE Learning Disabilities, University of West Florida. After teaching students with exceptional needs, Elementary, Middle, and Secondary schools, I joined the faculty, College of Professional Studies, Division of Teacher Education, in 1996, where I served as Instructor, Coordinator of Educational Programs, and Director, Field Experiences and Student Teaching. I bring to the Military Advisor assignment a wealth of experience and working knowledge of University Academic Policies, Graduate and Undergraduate programs, as well as the Department of Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), and Troops-To-Teachers/Spouse-To-Teachers Programs.
I am delighted to serve as the Military Coordinator for UWF’s Online Campus and stand ready to assist you with program information, the application process, registering and enrolling for courses.
